The Department of Information Technology, Government of Sikkim has been vigorously pursuing since 2007 for Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) optical fiber. The connectivity in the State of Sikkim is now set to improve with PGCIL Bandwidth having being provided from 5th May 2012. The use of the Optical ground Wire (OPGW) cable technology makes it a highly reliable source for providing network connectivity to both urban and rural areas and is best suited for hilly regions. The OPGW cables which are strung on the power pylons guarantees robust and reliable network connectivity throughout the state.
Good connectivity would give a fillip to the BPO industries, IT Park, Call Centre’s etc. to establish their centers in the State as now it will have the right infrastructure and bandwidth connectivity. The companies can use the infrastructure and local talent available which would also add to the employment of the youth in Sikkim. |
