INTRODUCTION:-
A Community Information Centre (CIC) is essentially a Computer Centre.
Normally each CIC has six Computers, Printers and direct Satellite link for
accessing the Internet. A generator is also provided for power back up in
case of electricity failure. Two computer operator-cum instructors man each
centre. Approximately 500 such centres are being established in the
North-East by the Government of India through the National Information
Centre (NIC) out of which 40 are in Sikkim.
Objectives of Community Information Centre

To spread awareness of computers to the
public
-
Access to the Internet so that users can get
wealth of Information. For instance the prevailing prices of Agricultural
commodities in various markets. This information is particularly useful
for farmers, as it will enable them to get a good price for their
agricultural products from the buyer.

Make life easier for the citizens. For
instance an old age pension application form can be printed through the
Internet at the CIC, doing away with the need of the applicant visit the
office just collect these.
