Ayushman Bharat -Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), launched in September 2018, a flagship scheme of GOI provides health coverage of Rs.5,00,000 (Five Lakh per family per year) to the poor and vulnerable families. These include deprived rural families who are validated in the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data base, as per the 2011 census and they can access medical and surgical treatment under the scheme. In Sikkim, a total of 39,738 families have been enrolled. As of now 50,400 golden cards or PMJAY ID have been distributed and 7,642 patients have received treatment from the state. The scheme covers expenses related to hospitalization, treatment and surgical procedures of beneficiaries in any empaneled hospital (public and private) of the state and outside the state. STNM Multispecialty hospital, Central Referral hospital and four district hospitals are empaneled under this scheme. In the first phase, State Health Agency (SHA) has empaneled 2 CHCs Rhenock and Jorethang, and 4 PHCs viz. Pakyong, Yangang, Soreng & Dentam.
The guiding principle of the scheme is to provide totally “Cashless treatment” so that under no circumstances should the beneficiary have to pay for the treatment. Any out-of-pocket expenditure will be reimbursed by the hospital within the package rate. If beneficiaries want to know about their eligibility under this scheme, they can call at toll free number 14555/9933667490, visit the nearest Common Service Centers (CSCs) which are present in all the districts or download the “pmjay” application/visit
