Gangtok, July 6 (IPR): Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang graced the occasion of the 87th Birthday Celebration of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at Bhoe-Lha-Sol-Sa, Sera Jay Drophenling Monastery Chandmari, today.
The celebration began with the singing of the Indian National Anthem followed by Tibetan birthday songs by youth wings.
The Chief Minister offered prayers to the portrait of H.H The Dalai Lama followed by the lighting of the lamp and cutting of the birthday cake.
During the programme, varieties of cultural events were also presented.
Earlier the welcome address was delivered by Office Secretary, Shri Karma Namgyal.
During the ceremony, the committee also felicitated the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister wished his
birthday greetings to H.H The 14th Dalai lama on behalf of the entire Sikkimese people and expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for the celebration.
The Chief Minister urged the people to protect and preserve culture and tradition as their identity. He has also consented to acknowledge the proposal for the construction of a community hall at the monastery premises.
During the speech, the Chief Minister informed that H.H the 14th Dalai lama has accepted the proposal of the State Government for his visit to Sikkim this year.
The Chief Minister has also assured all possible assistance from the State Government for the development and upliftment of the community.
Under the auspices of the Tibetan Community of Sikkim, the organizers felicitated the following individuals for their outstanding service to society and dedication to the state and the community:

Bhutia, Political Secretary to CM, Advisors, Chairpersons, Councillor Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Secretaries from Govt. of Sikkim, officials from Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, President Nepali Sahitya Parisad, Shri Rudra Poudyal, President Local Tibetan Assembly, Shri Tshering Wangchuck, President Thunkar Organisation Association, Shri kunju Churing, President of 6th Tibetan Association, Presidents of 21 KYI-DUK associations, former councilor, Shri Pema Wangda, organizing committee, religious leaders, Monks, devotees, and local gentry.
Earlier the Statement of Kashag of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile was read out by Office Secretary, Shri Karma Namgyal, and Chairman Local Tibetan Assembly, Shri Tsering Wangchuk.
