Monthly review meeting of Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee for Gyalshing District was held at the Conference Hall, District Administrative Centre, Rabdentse. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector, Ms Yishey D. Yongda.
The District Collector called for collaborative efforts of Police, Agriculture and Forest Departments for destroyal of cannabis plants from fields and forest lands. She also directed the field officers of Agriculture department to carry out awareness among farmers about the penal provisions of growing cannabis plants.
The Superintendent of Police highlighted about the District Level Drug Disposal Committee and monthly report of drug related cases of Gyalshing district.
ADO, Agriculture presented the Block wise report on the number of cannabis plants destroyed during joint visits with the Police.
The CMO added that Behavioural Change Communication programmes will be useful for creating awareness of youth. The DC once again brought up the matter of establishment of District Detoxification & Rehabilitation Centre mandated by Ministry of Social Justice ; CMO emphasised that once established, there would be the need of Psychiatrists and Counsellors for well-rounded rehabilitation of the addicted individuals.
Additionally, the DFO added that lifestyle changes can be promoted towards fitness, sports and nature activities to encourage fit and healthy lifestyle, away from life of abuse.
