Energy & Power Dept welcomes its new Minister Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa
Gangtok, 06 Jun 6 (IPR): Hon’ble Minister for Energy & Power Department, Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa, received a warm welcome at the office of Energy and Power Department here this afternoon.
The Minister was welcomed by PCE-cum-Secretary of Power Department, Shri. K.B. Kanwar, senior officers, officials from all four districts and staffs of the department.
In his first meeting with department head, officials and staffs, Shri Sherpa said, “I have lot of expectation from officials and staffs of the department and I hope many issues pending in the department will now be resolved with mutual support and cooperation. I hope that the department will meet people expectations and we can work together in collectively strengthening the power sector in the coming days.”
The Minister stated that his main endeavour will be to take forward the work done in the power sector and work for the development and betterment of the State. He also raised his serious concerns over the frequent death of linemen and directed the officials to sensitize the field staffs (linemen) to avoid any power related accident.
He added that the Power Department needs to ensure quality of power supply in the State and stated that improving the quality and availability of power supply in the State will be one of his main focuses since it has a direct relation with quality of life and socio-economic standard in the modern world. In some parts of the State, the accessibility of power is in pathetic condition, which needs to be improved, he added.
Further, the Minister urged the officials to keep and maintain departmental documents properly so that in the near future white paper of the department will have authentic information and can easily be accessed by any agencies.
In the end, he thanked everyone present for the warm welcome and elucidated hopes of working together collectively, positively and towards the overall betterment of the State.
The Minister also visited different sections of the department and was accompanied by Secretary, Shri Kanwar, and other officials.
