Hon'ble Speaker attends Sikkim@50 Conclave in New Delhi -organised by India Today in association with Government of Sikkim. In the afternoon session "Sikkim@47" , the panellists included Hon'ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa, Press Secretary to the Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr Yougan Tamang, Political Secretary to Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr Bikash Basnet and founding Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, Professor Mahendra P Lama also the Chief Economic Advisor to Hon'ble Chief Minister. The topics discussed were on strategic foresight, youthful leadership, and local wisdom to shape a resilient and inclusive future. Hon'ble Speaker , Shri Mingma, in his address, highlighted issues raised by the opposition in the State are being duly acknowledged and addressed by the Leader of the House in the Assembly. He drew attention to the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Sikkim’, which is being actively inculcated across all states, including Sikkim. He reiterated that the Chief Minister remains committed to the welfare of the State and its people. He also spoke about the promotion of nature-based and village tourism, where visitors can gain immersive hands-on experiences during their stay. He highlighted Sikkim’s rich biodiversity, noting that the state is home to over 4,000 species of medicinal plants. Emphasising the importance of preserving traditional heritage and culture, he mentioned that government employees have been directed to wear traditional attire once a week as a mark of respect and pride in local customs. He further underscored the potential of various tourist destinations in the state, such as Char Dham and the Stairway to Heaven, and extended an invitation to the dignitaries to visit these unique sites.
