Date: 27-Jul-2020

Gangtok, July 27(IPR): As per today's Health Bulletin issued by DG-cum-Secretary, Health, 10 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the State in the past 24 hours. Out of the 10 cases, 4 were secondary contacts of the Bojoghari positive case and one was a female from Sichey whose mother had tested positive some days back and is undergoing treatment at STNM Hospital. They were the primary contacts of the Rangpo/Chanatar case. All the above mentioned 5 cases were reported on RTPCR.

It was informed that 5 persons tested positive on Rapid Antigen. Out of the 5 cases, 4 were primary contacts of the Rangpo/Chanatar case while 1 person who tested positive was a returnee. It was informed in the Bulletin that 4 persons were shifted to the Covid Care Centre at Himalayan Pharmacy Boys' Hostel, and 1 was shifted to Indoor Gymnasium Hall, Paljor Stadium.

A total of 26 persons were discharged today taking the total number of cured and discharged patients to 174.
The total Active Cases now stands at 380, and the cumulative total has reached 555.

10 new cases were admitted in the Covid-19 ward today. 4 patients are in ICU, it was informed.

Speaking about a case he had reported yesterday to be from Samdong in East Sikkim, the DG-cum-Secretary clarified that the person who tested positive was from Bojoghari and not from Samdong. Only his sample was collected by Samdong PHC and sent for testing. He thus maintained that there is no case of Covid-19 in Samdong.

The DG-cum-Secretary explained that primary contacts of a Covid-19 positive person are those who either comes in physical contact with the positive person, is from the same family, or has met the positive person for atleast 15 minutes.
He made an appeal to the people to avoid crowding at the Hospitals or the testing/sample collection centre claiming to be primary contacts and asking for a test to be conducted. He explained that this would put undue pressure on the health care system and the genuine primary contacts would be left out in the process, which would hamper the normal course of action.
