152nd MAHATMA GANDHI JAYANTI CELEBRATION AND SAFAI ABHHIYAAN IN THE SDM OFFICE COMPLEX AT RAVANGLA
Namchi, 2nd October : The office of ADC ( Development) Ravangla in collaboration with various offices in the SDM Office Complex Ravangla and BAC Ravangla celebrated the 152nd Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti in the office compound as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and Clean India programmes.
The Programme had the participation of employees of various departments situated in SDM Complex and BAC Ravangla along with Volunteers from NYK. The Chief Guest for the day was Shri Tashi Dadul Bhutia, Honourable Zilla Panchayat of Ralong Borong TC.
The programme started with Mr. Sunil Kumar Mothay, ADC (Development) Ravangla welcoming & offering Khada to Chief Guest followed by lighting of Butter Lamp and offering of Khada to the photo frame of the Father of Nation by Chief Guest of the day Shri Mr Tashi Dadul Bhutia. Shri Yogesh Sharma, National Youth Volunteer NYK, Ravangla presented a brief speech on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Thereafter a brief talk on Aazadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Swacchata Hi Sewa and Ban on Single-Use Plastic was given by Sushree Anupama Rai, Under Secretary ADC (Development) Office, Ravangla. She requested everyone to practice 5 Rs ie. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose and Recycle in life to reduce plastic waste for a better environment. This was followed by the speech of Chief Guest, Shri Tashi Dadul Bhutia in which he reiterated the importance of the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and requested the gathering to emulate him in daily life.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by ADC ( Development) Ravangla along with information on the plan of the cleanliness drive.
The assembled participants then formed small groups to clean the areas surrounding SDM Complex, BAC Ravangla. Plogging was done along the CC footpath from SDM Complex to highway and approach road from highway to SDM Complex. The solid waste collected was brought to a commonplace to analyse the type and mass of the waste. It mainly comprised of wrappers, snack packets, plastic pet bottles, diapers, papers, glass bottles and face masks and weighed about 55 Kgs. The waste collected will be disposed of in a landfill situated in Sipchu, West Sikkim on Monday with the help of Ravangla Bazar Development Committee who are managing the solid waste at Ravangla
