2nd Battalion NDRF Conducts FAMEX mock drill at Soreng

Soreng, July 26 (IPR): The Familiarization Exercise (FAMEX) Community Awareness Programme was conducted at Soreng Senior Secondary School Auditorium Hall today organised by District Disaster Management Authority Soreng today. The programme was attended by Mr Sunny Kharel SDM Soreng, Panchayat President, Panchayat Members, Mr Manish Dubey Sub Inspector 2nd Battalion NDRF, Mr SK Sharma BDO Soreng, Dr. PB Chettri Principal Soreng Senior Secondary School, Mrs Rajani Pega DPO (DDMA) Soreng, Teachers and Students.
The program had a mock drill that commenced from 22nd July to 26th July, comprising five members from the 2nd Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). It was headed by Mr Manish Dubey Sub Inspector (NDRF) under the supervision of Mr. Gurminder Singh Commandant 2nd Battalion NDRF.
Mr Sunny Kharel congratulated the NDRF team, reminded the gatherings of the 2023 flash flood in Sikkim, thanked the NDRF and SDRF teams for their efforts, and encouraged students to pursue disaster management studies.
Mr Manish Dubey Sub Inspector informed that the 2nd Battalion NDRF headquarters is in Kolkata and that the NDRF office in Sikkim is in Pakyong. This NDRF team conducts rescue operations during disasters in Sikkim and North Bengal. The team has also conducted rescue operations in other countries, such as Nepal and during the earthquake in Turkey.
During the program, BDO Soreng emphasized that disasters can occur anywhere and anytime, urging everyone to stay alert and aware. The goal of this awareness program is to prepare individuals to handle any situation at any time, emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility. He encouraged students to learn from the program and share their knowledge and experiences with their families.
Dr. PB Chettri emphasized the importance of FAMEX and highlighted the frequent occurrence of natural disasters in Sikkim, such as earthquakes, landslides, and flash floods. He urged students to pay close attention during mock drills, as these exercises can be crucial in saving many lives.
Mrs Rajani Pega DPO (DDMA) Soreng mentioned that the 2nd Battalion NDRF conducts a FAMEX (Familiarization Exercise) program every year.
