78th Independence Day celebration enters the 2nd day at Soreng district
Soreng, July 31(IPR): The 2nd day of the 78th Independence Day celebrations held today at Jautar Stadium, Soreng continued with the men’s invitational football match played between Sikkim Police against Kalimpong Police and various cultural performances from schools.
The Soreng district inter-department football tournament also commenced today, with the Soreng Police (4) winning the match against Women & Child Development Department (1).
Mr Aditya Golay, former MLA (Soreng-Chakung) was the chief guest for the day and he was accompanied by Mr Prabhakar Golay, Chief Patron Jan Kalyan Prakoshta as the special guest, Ms Tila Devi Gurung Zilla Adhakshya (Soreng district), Zilla Panchayats, Mr CP Sharma former Advisor (Press), former Chairpersons, DC Soreng, ADC, ADC 9Development), SDMs, HODs, District Officers, dignitaries, Retired Army Association, students and public at large.
In his address, the chief guest firstly, appreciated all stakeholders for their efforts in hosting any event in the district with equal zeal and vigour and hoped that this co-ordination and co-operation is sustained for the growth and development of the district.
Similarly, he acknowledged the determined works done by the Government under the dynamic leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang while reiterating the HCM’s dream to make Soreng a model district.
Furthermore, he encouraged everybody to self-evaluate the district’s competencies for greater accomplishments. He said that tourism is one of the sectors that can be focused for gaining financial independence and stressed upon the necessity to tap in the resources available in the district through tourism for a flourished economy. He also spoke about parent’s approach towards educating their children in the importance of entrepreneurship as a formidable career.
The match outcome was Sikkim Police winning against Kalimpong Police with a score of 2 against 0.
At the outset, the welcome address was done by Mr Sunny Kharel, SDM Soreng.
The program concluded with the vote of thanks addressed by Mr Binod Rai, DE Power department.
