AGM of West Pendam MPCS Commemorates 50 Years of Statehood and International Year of Cooperatives
Pakyong, March 22 (IPR): The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of West Pendam Multi Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (MPCS) was conducted at the premises of Government Junior High School Singlebong, West Pendam, today.
Mr LB Das, MLA West Pendam cum Advisor Land Revenue & Disaster Management, IT and IPR Department, Government of Sikkim attended the meeting as the chief guest.
The AGM was held to commemorate 50 years of statehood and the International Year of Cooperatives, focusing on the financial audit report, operational review, and the distribution of bonuses and dividends.
In his address, Mr LB Das highlighted the functions of cooperative societies, emphasising that shareholders of an established society have the flexibility to engage in various business activities. Further, he stressed the importance of honesty in cooperative management and stated that necessary support would be provided if the MPCS encountered any challenges.
During the meeting, Ms Kesaang Yanki, Additional Registrar, Cooperation Department, highlighted the role of the Cooperation Department and stated that since the inception of the Ministry of Cooperation in 2021, several initiatives have been undertaken to strengthen the cooperative sector.
She outlined initiatives implemented by cooperative societies in Pakyong District and highlighted key programmes under the Ministry of Cooperation. These included PM Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY), computerisation of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), the establishment of PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras to improve access to generic medicines at the rural level, Common Service Centres (CSCs) to enhance e-services, PACS as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samriddhi Kendras (PMKSK) to ensure easy access to biofertilisers and related services for farmers, PACS as LPG distributorships and the National Cooperative Database.
She stated that to ensure proper monitoring of these implementations, a three-tier system has been established at the national, state, and district levels.
Furthermore, she informed that the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives under the theme "Cooperatives Build a Better World", during which various activities will be organised.
She stated that efforts are underway towards Sunaulo ani Samriddhi Sikkim and urged joint efforts to strengthen MPCS.
At the outset of the meeting, Mr Dushyant Pradhan, Audit Officer, Cooperation Department, presented the audit report where the financial statements were reviewed, highlighting income, expenditure, and profit.
During the AGM, the MPCS distributed bonuses and dividends to its members, and also to the Government of Sikkim and the panchayat body for shares subscribed.
The event included a felicitation ceremony, honouring individuals for their contributions across various fields.
An open discussion was also held, where members shared their concerns.

Ltd.; officials from Cooperation Department; Branch manager, SISCO Bank, Singtam Branch; along with board members and cooperative members.
