Block Level pre- “International Women’s Day” celebration at Soreng District
Soreng, February 20 (IPR): Block Administrative Centre (BAC) Soreng organised the Block level pre-"International Women's Day" celebration, with a theme "Re-inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mothers back to their childhood hobbies and Interests" at Rurban Complex Soreng, today.
The event aimed to encourage women, particularly mothers, to revisit their long-lost interests and talents.
The occasion had the presence of Zilla Panchayat members, Panachayat members, Mr Gaayas Pega ADC (Dev), Ms Mamita Gurung Deputy Director (Sports Department), Mr Kumar Subba DPO (Zilla), Mr Paru Hang Subba BDO (Soreng), Ms Sushma Mohra AD (Education Department), Panchayat Inspectors and general public at large.
Mr Gaayas Pega ADC (Dev) addressed the gathering, where he gave a brief overview on the objective of “International Women’s Day” celebration. He then, expressed his gratitude towards women and honoured them in the occasion and urged everyone to show respect to all the women wherever possible. He further stated the importance of education, urging the present to support educating a girl child and guiding them for the better future. He also touched upon the discrimination faced by the women and highlighted the importance of gender equality, so the aim of the celebration is all about empowering women, he added.
A competition was held during the program, featuring three categories- performing arts, creative writing, and creative arts and crafts, where participants showcased their diverse talents.
Additionally, Panchayat Inspectors along with the judges for the competition were provided with the token of appreciation, wherein a certificate of participation was given to all the participants.
It is to be noted here that, the winners of the competition are-
1. Performing arts- Ms Januka Darjee (25-Upper Timburbong GPU)
2. Creative writing- Ms Laxmi Tamang (26-Karthok GPU)
3. Creative arts and crafts- Ms Kalpana Shankar (23-Tharpu)
Initially, the programme commenced with the welcome address delivered by Mr Paru Hang Subba BDO (Soreng), while the programme concluded with a word of thanks proposed by Mr Narshadeep Tamang PI (BAC, Soreng).
