Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay Graces Golden Jubilee Celebration of Sawali Gaon Government Secondary School, Soreng
Soreng, April 15, (IPR): The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang graced the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Government Secondary School Sawali Gaon, Soreng as a Chief Guest.
Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, while addressing the gathering, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the land donor, Late Harka Bahadur Khati, and his family for their noble contribution. He also acknowledged and appreciated the dedication of retired teachers and current teaching staff for their invaluable service in shaping the institution.
The Chief Minister congratulated the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee of Secondary School Sawali Gaon for successfully organising the event. He expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the people of Gelling Samsing GPU for their unwavering support and trust, having elected him for three consecutive terms from 1994 to 2004.
Highlighting the priorities of the government, he emphasised that Education and Health remain the foremost sectors of focus. He informed the gathering that principals, headmasters, and headmistresses have been appointed in every school to ensure effective administration and quality education delivery.
Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang further highlighted that the construction of the Baiguney Block Administrative Centre (BAC) which will commence soon. Acknowledging the issue of water scarcity in the region, he urged the concerned administrative authorities to draft a comprehensive water supply project that will cover the entire Salghari-Zoom Constituency and the Chumbung Block.
He outlined various key infrastructure projects under the Salghari-Zoom Constituency, including the Jorethang Stadium, Sandhya Aarati Sthaal, Nepali Bhawan, and Guru Gyandil Das Dham at Gelling. He announced that a Peacock Park will also be developed in the constituency to support wildlife preservation and promote eco-tourism. Additionally, a Culture Village is planned to be constructed at Karfectar, aimed at preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region.
The Chief Minister expressed the government’s vision of elevating the annual "Makar Sankranti" celebration in Jorethang to a national-level event, similar to the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland. He also mentioned ongoing developmental initiatives such as the construction of SGAY (Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana) houses and rooftop water harvesting systems in Mabong Segeng GPU.
Touching upon educational reforms, he emphasised the Government’s commitment under the New India Literacy 2027 campaign, aiming to make Sikkim the number one literate state in the country. He further announced that coaching classes for competitive exams like JEE and NEET will begin in government schools from the academic year 2025.
Mr Madan Cintury, Area MLA of Salghari-Zoom, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the land donor, Late Harka Bahadur Khati, for his generous contribution towards the establishment of the school. He also extended his sincere thanks to the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee and the Soreng District Officials for their unwavering support and coordination in every aspect of the celebration.
During the programme, Mr Tilak Sharma, Headmaster of Government Secondary School, Sawali Gaon, presented the School Report, highlighting the institution’s achievements, progress, and milestones over the past 50 years.
As a gesture of gratitude and respect, a Letter of Appreciation and mementos were presented to the Chief Minister by Area MLA, Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, 2nd IRBn Pipalay, represented by the Commandant, as well as by former students and the local Gram Panchayat.
Felicitation and Letters of Appreciation were presented to the family of the land donor, Late Harka Bahadur Khati, as well as to retired teachers and current faculty members in recognition of their invaluable contributions to the institution.
Additionally, two students of Government Secondary School, Sawali Gaon, who were selected for the prestigious Chief Minister’s Merit Scholarship Scheme, were also felicitated for their academic excellence.
Open Football Final match was played between Ryon FC and Future Star. While Ryon FC emerged as a winner.
The event also featured vibrant cultural dance performances presented by students from various schools, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the region.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister visited the exhibition stalls set up on the school premises and interacted with the students, appreciating their creativity and enthusiasm.
