Chief Minister inaugurates Delhi Public School Gangtok.

Sports and Youth Affairs and Law Departments, Mr G T Dhungel, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Culture Departments, Ms Tshering Palden Bhutia, Deputy Mayor, GMC, Former Legislators, Mr R Telang, ACS Home and Education Departments, Mr Tashi Chophel Lepcha, Secretary (School Education), Education Department, Mr Praveen Srivastav, Member of Board of Management, DPS, Mr Sandip Killa, Pro Vice Chairman of DPS Gangtok, Government Officers, Parents and other dignitaries.
In his address, the Chief Minister congratulated the DPS management on the successful inauguration of the institute and emphasised the state government's ongoing commitment to improving the education sector. He highlighted that the establishment of such a renowned institution in the state is a step forward for the state.
The Chief Minister encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the school. He also encouraged the authorities to prioritise recruiting teachers and non-teaching staff from the state, promoting local participation in the institution's development.
The Chief Minister, outlined the government's initiatives in education, emphasizing reserved seats for students pursuing higher education through state-sponsored programs particularly Chief Minister's Merit Scholarship Scheme till graduation level. He highlighted the establishment of a state of the art model school in Namchebong Constituency, where faculty will be selected from existing government teachers after a rigorous interview process. Successful candidates will receive an additional 25% salary incentive.
The Chief Minister, acknowledging teaching as a noble profession, also proposed restructuring teachers' salaries into two components: a salary component and a teaching allowance component. Only teachers actively engaged in teaching will be eligible for the teaching allowance, while those on deputation to other departments will forfeit it.
The Chief Minister, advocating a fair and merit-based education system, urged everyone to refrain from seeking recommendations for school admissions and teacher transfers, promoting a transparent process instead. He concluded his address by wishing DPS continued success in maintaining its global brand and reputation in Sikkim.
In his address, Mr Raju Basnet highlighted the state government’s initiatives in advancing the education sector. He expressed optimism that the institution would play a key role in instilling strong values in students while educating them about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the state. Mr Basnet emphasised that along with academic excellence, it is essential for students to develop a deep understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots, which the institution is well-positioned to foster.
Mr GT Dhungel spoke about the vital role of education in shaping future generations in his address. He underscored the importance of providing quality education while instilling strong values and morals in students. Mr Dhungel expressed hope that students enrolling in the institution would approach their education with the right perspective. He also highlighted that education not only builds knowledge but also shapes character, stressing the importance of cultivating good behaviour alongside academic excellence.
Mr Praveen Srivastav, provided a brief history of the school and emphasised its motto, "Service Before Self." hoping that DPS Gangtok would continue to uphold this principle, bringing laurels to the state and further elevating the school's reputation. Mr. Srivastav also highlighted the school's commitment to academic excellence, moral values, and the holistic development of students, expressing confidence that it would contribute positively to the educational landscape of the region.
In her welcome address, the Headmistress, Ms Dolly Rai Panday, welcomed the dignitaries in attendance. She highlighted that the school would prioritise child-centric education and uphold the national reputation that DPS has earned globally. She laid focus on a pedagogical system aimed at holistic education, ensuring the overall development of students. She provided a brief history of the school and stressed that academic excellence at DPS Gangtok will be accompanied by strong moral and ethical values to foster a sustainable future. She underlined the importance of offering a wide range of enrichment opportunities beyond academics to help students develop passions and skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Mr Kanishk Killa, Board Trustee of DPS Gangtok, expressed his gratitude to the state government for their support and outlined the school's vision, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence, holistic development, and strong ethical values. He stated that the goal of DPS Gangtok is to not only prepare students for academic success but also shape them into responsible, well-rounded individuals who will contribute positively to society.
The Chief Minister unveiled the Delhi Public School plaque and officially launched the school's website.
