Closing ceremony of Self Defence Program at Soreng District

Soreng, November 17 (IPR):
A closing ceremony for the self defence training program for girl students was organised by Samagra Siksha Education Department, Government of Sikkim under the Rani Laxmi Bai Atma Raksha Parishikshan scheme. The training program had commenced from the last week of August within various schools throughout the district until the 30th of October, which concluded today at PM Shri Soreng Senior Secondary School Soreng District.
The ceremony was chaired by Mr Aditya Golay Tamang (MLA Soreng-Chakung) as the chief guest along with Mr P K Subba (SDM HQ), Mr LD Sharma (CEO Education ) Mr Lobsang Tamang (JD Fisheries) Mr Mohan Sharma (AE UDHD) and other officials from various departments.
The chief guest, Mr Aditya Golay Tamang (MLA Soreng-Chakung) thanked the education department, the supporting district departments and the gathering for their presence. He briefed about the programs outreach and the importance of the program and how it could help to keep girls students safe in present times, where the cases of POSCO and trafficking are constantly being witnessed. He urged that the program should be taken forward and carried out every year, as it is proves to be very crucial for girl students. He also highlighted on the details of making education more holistic for students and the approach of providing education to bring about change in the quality of education for students.
Mr LD Sharma (CEO) addressed the chair and welcomed everyone present. He briefed about the program and informed about the details of the upcoming exam sessions and the assessment of the students on a national level to review the standard of education in various classes and the steps the government has taken to ensure proper preparations for students.
Thereon Mr Paro Hang Subba (Coach), informed that the program is conceptualised honouring Rani Laxmi Bai, and around 48 schools have undergone this program which included the training for, martial arts, boxing and taekwondo by certified trainers and coaches.
Towards the end he commended the trainers and coaches for their efforts in conducting this program successfully in 48 schools within the district and thanked everyone for their cooperation.
Sequentially a video was demonstrated portraying information about the basis and the outreach of the program, fostering self defence and showcased drills and training sessions that were carried out in various schools around the district. Later a live demonstration was also showcased by the girls showcasing various combat sport techniques and moves in the discipline of boxing, martial arts and taekwondo.
Thereafter the chief guest handed out appreciation letters to the trainers and coaches and certificates to the participating students of various schools .
A Vote of thanks was conveyed by Mr SP Sharma (Director Education). Encouraging the students to engage and participate in these kind of programs.
