Coordination and Sensitisation Meeting on Juvenile Justice and POCSO Acts
Pakyong, October 03 (IPR):
A coordination meeting on “The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and POCSO Act, 2012 was held at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (Sr. SP), Pakyong today.
The meeting was chaired by Mr Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, Sr. SP Pakyong, and was attended by Mr Rinzing Chophel Rai, ASP Pakyong and Mr Prakash Subba SDPO Pakyong along with Special Juvenile Police Unit, SHOs, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Child Protection Officer and NGOs of Pakyong District.
The objective of the meeting was to ensure coordination and sensitise stakeholders by equipping them with the necessary legal and procedural knowledge to safeguard children from abuse, exploitation, and neglect, while also providing appropriate care and protection under the law and improving the day-to-day functioning of various agencies under the Acts.
During the session, discussion was also held on the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, focusing on child rights, rehabilitation processes, and the legal responsibilities of institutions and caregivers.
The POCSO Act was also elaborated upon, with discussions around the legal framework that ensures the protection of children from sexual offences and the processes for handling such cases sensitively and efficiently.
Sr. SP emphasised the importance of inter-departmental coordination in implementing these acts effectively and ensuring the protection and justice for children. The session also included discussions on practical case studies and interactive Q&A sessions to address challenges faced by officers and stakeholders in the field.
