DC Gangtok discusses the next steps for Swadesh Darshan 2.0 with the project team
Gangtok, July 10 (IPR): Mr Tushar Nikhare, District Collector, Gangtok chaired a meeting of the 6th Destination Management Committee of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 at the District Administrative Centre today.
The meeting was attended by Ms Vijeta Chettri, Assistant Director, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Ms Yangchen Tongden Lepcha and Ms Sukham Tampha Leima, Project Coordinators- Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Mr Sudhakar Sahou, HoD, Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Sajong, Rumtek.
The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Ms Yangchen Tongden Lepcha who emphasized the importance of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme in enhancing the tourism infrastructure and boosting the local economy.
Ms Sukham Tampha Leima delivered an insightful PowerPoint presentation detailing the upcoming phases 2, 3, and 4 of the Gangtok destination under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative. Her presentation underscored significant steps toward promoting and developing sustainable tourism in the district, emphasizing key tourist attractions.
Following this, Ms Yangchen Tongden Lepcha, in her comprehensive presentation, highlighted the various activities of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) aimed at fostering sustainable tourism in the Gangtok District.
Further, Mr Sudhakar Sahou also informed about the various Swadesh Darshan 2.0 programmes under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India conducted at IHM, Sajong, Rumtek.
Mr Tushar Nikhare advised prioritizing improvements in basic infrastructure, such as sanitation and connectivity, to enhance the accessibility and visitor-friendliness of tourist destinations, thereby maintaining a positive image of the area. He also proposed innovative promotional strategies to attract tourists, such as creating small reading corners and displaying placards with more engaging taglines.
An interactive session followed wherein the attendees had the opportunity to discuss their concerns, share suggestions, and seek advice on various aspects of the project. He addressed all queries and assured continued support from the administration.
The meeting concluded with the formulation of a comprehensive action plan outlining the next steps for the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 in Gangtok district.
