DC Gyalshing chairs the District Water and Sanitation Mission Meeting at DAC,Rabdentse

The District Water and Sanitation Mission meeting was held at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Rabdentse, Gyalshing in observance of World Toilet Day with the theme “Sanitation for Peace.”
The event was chaired by District Collector Ms. Yishey D. Yongda, with the presence of Ms. Rajani Sharma, ADC Gyalshing Mr Surat Gurung ADC(Dev)Mr Pulkit SDM (HQ) Mr Sundesh Subba SDM Gyalshing Mr Bikash Pradhan CMO Gyalshing , all BDOs, Panchayats of select GPUs and other officials.
The opening presentation was made by Mr Surat GurungADC/Development where he floored an overview of the theme “Hamro Shauchalay: Hamro Samman” and highlighted key initiatives planned for World Toilet Day for Block Development Officers.
Block Development officer from Hee Martam, Dentam, Yuksam, and Chongrang, delivered detailed PowerPoint presentations on the sanitation and toilet hygiene efforts in their areas.
District Collector in her concluding remarks, remarked that individual toilets are well maintained, however it is the Community & Institutional Toilets that require attention and focus. She directed the BDOs to hold regular meetings with Panchayats, NGOs, officials of Education and PHSCs at the Block level duly focusing on the theme of “Sanitation with Dignity”for consistent maintenance of hygiene standards. She emphasized on the need for all Common Sanitary Centers (CSCs) and toilet complexes to be fully functional and advocated for introducing user charges to generate revenue and maintain cleanliness. Highlighting Sikkim’s status as a tourist-friendly state, particularly Gyalshing district as a tourist hub, she directed officials to conduct regular field visits and report progress. She also recommended a third-party audit to ensure impartial assessment on the status of public toilets. She urged stakeholders to work collectively to uphold cleanliness standards, enhancing Sikkim’s image as a model of hygiene and sustainability.
Addressing the house ADC Gyalshing inquired the house about the toilet Hygiene in Schools and Initiatives to promote hygiene practices among school students.she also suggested Anganwadi Centres for Strategies to improve hygiene standards for young children. Focussing on developing and outlining the district’s action plan for water and sanitation SDM (HQ) briefed on Water Conservation Initiative emphasizing sustainable water management practices implementing measures to recharge aquifers, such as rainwater harvesting and managed aquifer recharge and Protecting areas that contribute to natural aquifer recharge from development or pollution.
Additionally CDPO, Gyalshing suggested for incorporating hygiene practices into child development programmes. AD Education Department highlighted the partnership between the education sector and sanitation efforts to improve school environments.
