DC Soreng chairs meeting on Labour Regulation and Tenant Verification issues

DC Soreng Mr Dhiraj Subedi chaired meeting on 'Labour Regulation and Tenant Verification Issues' at DAC Soreng, today.
The attendees were Mr Nahkul Pradhan (SP Soreng), Mr Santosh Kumar Alley (ADC II), Mr Prem K Subba (SDM HQ), Mr Sameer Pradhan (SDPO Soreng), Mr Prakash Chandra Subba (Assistant Labour Commissioner), BDOs, SHOs, HODs, concerned Department Officers and officials.
During the meeting, DC Soreng discussed important matters related to tenant verification, registration of domestic and professional helps, and the proper implementation of laws to control the influx in Sikkim. The meeting focused on the enforcement of ‘The Sikkim Tenants and Domestic and Professional Helps Act, 2008; the Sikkim Labour (Regulation of Employment and Condition of Service) Act, 2021’ and the ‘Representation of the People Act,1950 along with the responsibilities of various stakeholders in ensuring effective record-keeping and verification processes.
The DC emphasised the role of Station House Officers (SHOs) of the Sikkim Police in enforcing these laws and directed them to ensure the proper filing of Forms 1, 2, and 3 under the Sikkim Tenants and Domestic and Professional Helps Act, 2008. These forms are essential for registering tenants as well as domestic and professional helps, helping maintain transparency in the system and highlighted the importance of verifying non-local individuals residing in the state to manage and monitor population movement effectively.
To ensure the verification process is effective in rural areas, Block Development Officers (BDOs) were instructed to work closely with panchayats in verifying non-local residents. He further stated that the panchayats will play a key role in gathering and maintaining data at the grassroots level and that all records must be kept updated at the respective BDO offices for better monitoring, ensuring better checks and prevention of unlawful activities in their respective jurisdiction.
DC Soreng also made a strong appeal to the residents of Soreng, especially house owners, urging them to properly verify the documents of their tenants and take part in the exercise as responsible citizens in view of the fact that it is the duty of the landlord under the above laws to have the tenants registered in the concerned police station.
The administration encouraged collaboration between local communities and law enforcement to strengthen the verification process.
