Director General of Northeast Zone Talks on 'The Current Communication Scenario’ at Sikkim University

Gangtok, October 29 (IPR): Mr K Satish Nambudiripad, Director General of Northeast Zone (NEZ), Press Information Bureau (PIB) & Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, led the lecture and interaction session on ‘The Current Communication Scenario’ at Barad Sadan, Tadong, today.
The session was organised by the Department of Mass Communication, Sikkim University.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by Dr Jasmine Yimchunger, HOD Department of Mass Communication, Sikkim University.
Mr K Satish Nambudiripad, in his address on ‘The Current Communication Scenario’, discussed the evolving dynamics of communication, covering the communication process and its influence across traditional media, sociological aspects, and technological advancements.
Mr Nambudiripad stated that conventional media has long shaped public discourse and community perspectives. He highlighted the sociological impact of communication, noting its role in connecting diverse communities. He also discussed the influence of technology in transforming how information is shared and consumed.
Mr Nambudiripad noted that the shift towards digital platforms has changed information dissemination, altering expectations for both content creators and audiences. He also mentioned challenges arising from this shift, such as managing information flow, addressing misinformation, and adapting to new technologies.
He noted that the internet has become a key mode of interaction in today’s world, emphasising its vast reach and variety. Mr. Nambudiripad stated that the internet and social media have transformed communication methods and serve as platforms for global information exchange and engagement, he concluded.
Following the session, an interactive discussion took place among faculty, students, and the guest speaker, where they raised questions and gained insights from him.
Also present were Dr Ibomcha Sharma, Assistant Director, PIB & Akashvani Gangtok, along with faculty members of Mass Communication, staff, and students.
The programme concluded with the word of thanks proposed by Ms Kunjani Darnal, PRO Sikkim University.
