District Hub for Empowerment of Women Conducts Awareness Programme on Women-Centric Provisions in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita

Pakyong, 10 July (IPR): The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), under the Mission Shakti scheme of the Women and Child Development Department, conducted an insightful awareness programme focusing on the women-centric provisions in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita at SRLM Block Office Pakyong RDD today.
The programme aimed to educate and empower women about their legal rights within the Indian legal framework.
Resource Person Mr Pradeep Chettri, SHO Pakyong, briefed attendees on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanita (BNS), a new legal structure implemented on 1 July 2024. He explained that BNS seeks to address shortcomings and ambiguities in the Indian Penal Code (IPC), ensuring more effective and just legal provisions for the protection of citizens, particularly women, children, and marginalised groups.
Mr Chettri discussed key changes in the BNS, including offences against the body, sexual offences against women, organised crime, and more. He also highlighted responsibilities regarding any child offences and child marriage, emphasising the importance of reporting such incidents.
The programme was attended by Ms Dikit Lepcha Deputy Director W&CD, Ms Sangeeta Khatiwara SI Pakyong, APM & BPM SRLM and Self Help Groups.
