District Level Pre- International Women’s Day 2025 observed at Namchi
Namchi 28th February ( IPR ): A district level Pre- International Women’s Day 2025 was marked by enthusiasm and active participation from women across the district under the theme, “ Re- Inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mother’s Back to their Childhood Hobbies & Interests” at Imperial Talkies, Namchi, today.
The event was organised by District Administrative Centre ( DAC) in coordination with Sikkim Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economics ( INSPIRES) with the objective to rediscover the childhood hobbies and passion of a Mother.
The programme was graced by Ms Raj Kumari Thapa Deputy Speaker SLA as the Chief Guest. She was accompanied by Mr Satish Chandra Rai MLA Namchi-Singhithang along with Mr Riksal Dorjee Bhutia MLA Barfung Constituency as Special Guests.
Also , present were, Ms Anjeeta Rajlim Zilla Adhakshya Namchi, Ms Sabitri Tamang Vice Chairman Namchi Municipal Council ( NMC), Zilla Panchayats, Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Mr CP Rai ADC Development Namchi, Mr Sunil Mothey ADC Development Ravangla, HoOs, BDO's, members and participants from Self Help Groups( SHG) across district, members and staff of Block Administrative Centre ( BAC) Namchi, esteemed judges from various Creative backgrounds and dignitaries.
Ms Raj Kumari Thapa in her address, extended her heartiest wishes to all the women present. She commended the successful conduction of the event and lauded the active participation of women from diverse backgrounds. She highlighted the journey of a women from, fighting for revolution to rediscovering her worth and proudly stated that the women of Sikkim serve as an excellent example of women empowerment.
She emphasized that women possess immense power to create a significant impact on society and acknowledged the vision of the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang Golay in uplifting and empowering women in the state.
She also mentioned successful state- run schemes like the ‘Vatsalya Yojana’, ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’ and ‘ Aama Yojana’, which have contributed significantly to the welfare of girls and women from diverse backgrounds.
Further, she took the opportunity to appreciate the tireless efforts of Integrated Child Development Scheme ICDS) , Accredited Social Health Activist ( ASHA) and SHG’s who reach remote areas to uplift communities. She encouraged all women to shift their mind-set from being beneficiaries to becoming future stakeholders in the societal progress.
She also highlighted the pressing social issues like rising suicide rates in the state and drug misuse among the youth and emphasized the need to steer the younger generation to the right direction. She also stressed the importance of collective efforts, especially from men, in fostering an environment where women can thrive and succeed.
Concluding her speech, Ms Raj Kumari Thapa expressed her joy over the special performance by the senior citizen women, who left an everlasting impression with their dance , setting a true example of women empowerment.
Ms Anupa Tamiling DC Namchi introduced an impromptu age- old game tradionally played by women and children, rekindling childhood memories and fostering a sense of connection.
Winners of this game were felicitated with token of appreciation along with Women Achievers from Seven Constituencies, who were recognized for their invaluable contribution towards the society in various fields.
Also, participants from 8 BAC’s across the district competed in three different categories, who will further compete for the state level.
The winners of the events are as follows:
1. Creative Writing Competition
Ms Sabitri Chettri, Namchi BAC
2. Performing Arts
Ms Kusum Sharma and team, Temi BAC
3. Art and Crafts
Ms Jyoti Chettri, Namchi ( BAC) .
