Education Department launch online admission portal for Class XI

Gangtok, July 23: Education Department, Government of Sikkim has launched the online admission portal for Class XI (eleven) students of Sikkim. The portal was launched by the Additional Chief Secretary Shri G.P. Upadhyaya in the presence of State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha and Director Elementary Education Shri Bhim Thatal today.

This year, a total of 10449 students had appeared in Class X (Ten) examinations of the CBSE out of which 7833 (3410 Male and 4423 Female) have passed which is 75%. Pass percentage of the students in Class X is better than 2019 (68 % in 2019). Total 2225 students fall in the category of compartment (21 %) while 164 (1.5%) were absent and 222 (2%) failed.

The launch of online portal for admission in Class XI is done as it has been felt that though there is lockdown and the schools are not likely to open till the end of August, continuity of learning must happen. During the pandemic, several methods of learning like online classes, offline mode by way of reaching out to the students through laptops with pre-loaded learning contents, Sikkim Edutech App, home-schooling for elementary level students are already happening.

The Department has now taken a call to admit the students in Class XI through online method so that the classes through several modes already in process, could also be extended to Class XI. Students are advised to visit the online portal of the Department and fill up the application form and submit it online. The address of the website is http://edndeptsikkim.in/

Some of the criteria for admission to Class XI are:
1. Students who have passed class X from the Senior Secondary Schools must apply in their respective schools only.

2. Those students who have passed class X from a Senior Secondary School can apply to other nearby Senior Secondary School, if their preferred streams are not available at home school.

3. Admission in Science and Commerce streams shall be as per the criteria laid down by respective schools. Preference for admission shall be given to the feeder schools and the other schools in the surrounding depending upon the availability of seats.

4. Compartment candidates can apply for provisional admission in their own schools. However, students of the Secondary School can apply at a nearby school.
