First Annual TONGSUM Village Tourism Festival 2024 Begins in Darap, Gyalshing
Gyalshing, October 16 (IPR):
The first annual TONGSUM Village Tourism Festival 2024, themed "Where Hospitality Meets Heritage," commenced at Darap Village in Gyalshing District. Organized by Darap Tourism Development Committee (DTDC), the festival aims to highlight the region’s cultural identity and heritage through tourism.
The event was inaugurated by Minister-cum-Area MLA, Mr. Bhim Hang Subba, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his brief address, he emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism that celebrates local culture, fosters economic growth and preserves the region's natural beauty. He also stated that the festival will be celebrated annually, with more local elements added in future editions.
The festival seeks to promote the traditional values of the community and introduce them to a wider audience. It provides a platform for local artisans, performers, and entrepreneurs to display their skills and products while offering visitors a unique cultural experience.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries toured the festival grounds. They viewed exhibits of locally grown flowers, handmade bamboo crafts, millet products by self-help groups(SHGs) and traditional textiles. Cultural dance performances added to the lively atmosphere, showcasing the vibrant heritage of the area.
The TONGSUM Village Tourism Festival is expected to draw tourists and cultural enthusiasts from across the region. It offers visitors the chance to experience the traditions, artistry, and hospitality of Darap Village firsthand.
The festival will continue until October 20, featuring various cultural events and exhibitions that celebrate the diversity and spirit of the region.
