Friday Field Day: Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation
Pakyong, 17 August (IPR): On the fourth Friday Field Day initiative, which focuses on revitalising barren lands for agriculture, Pakyong District received numerous requests from various GPUs to assess their development in transforming unproductive land into a fertile plot.
The objectives of the initiative are as follows:
• Revival of barren land for cultivation
• Inter-departmental collaboration among the Rural Development Department, Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Cooperation, Irrigation, and Forest Departments
• To improve soil fertility and implement water conservation techniques,
• To enhance livelihood opportunities for local farmers and communities.
It is to be mentioned that under the collaborative efforts undertaken by Mr Robin Pd Seva, ADC (Dev), Additional Director, Agriculture and Horticulture Department, Additional Director, Animal Husbandry Office, Zilla Panchayats, Panchayat members, officials from BACs and staff from various departments have contributed to reviving the barren land, which would be ready for cultivation.
In addition, this milestone marks a major victory for our collaborative approach, demonstrating the power of interdepartmental cooperation.
In order to assess the work of the GPUs under the Rhenock and Rongli areas, Ms Rebecca Gurung, Dy Director Horticulture Department, Mr Krishna Dhakal, ADO Horticulture Department, along with their staff members, visited the areas of the GPUs and expressed satisfaction with their achievements.
It was observed that each GPU is working in collaboration to improve and increase the production of agricultural and horticultural products by revitalising unproductive lands.
