GOVERNOR CONCLUDES HIS TOUR OF GYALSHING DISTRICT

Gyalshing, February 28 (IPR): Continuing his official visit to Gyalshing district, Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, spent the second day immersing himself in the region’s spiritual heritage, scenic beauty, and engaging with the dedicated personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Rimbi. His engagements underscored the importance of preserving cultural heritage, promoting sustainable tourism, and recognizing the contributions of security forces in the state.
The day commenced with an official Guard of Honour accorded to the Governor, setting a solemn and dignified tone for the series of engagements that followed.
The Governor’s first stop was Pemayangtse Monastery, one of Sikkim’s most revered and historically significant monastic sites. Upon arrival, he was warmly welcomed by members of the Dor-U-Chosum Committee and the resident monks. Dr Jigmee Wangchuk Bhutia, Publicity Secretary of the Dor-U-Chosum Committee, briefed him on the monastery’s rich history and spiritual significance, highlighting its role as a beacon of Sikkim’s deep-rooted Buddhist heritage. In a moment of solemn reverence, the Governor offered prayers and participated in the monastery’s sacred rituals, honoring traditions that have guided generations of monks and devotees.
Building on his spiritual journey, the Governor then made his way to the Chenrezig Statue and Sky Walk, located on the premises of Sangagchoeling Monastery. Towering against the majestic backdrop of Mt Khangchendzonga, the statue stands as a symbol of compassion and enlightenment. Offering prayers at this architectural marvel, he reflected on the spiritual energy that resonates across the landscape, appreciating the region’s enduring faith and devotion.
The next destination was Ramsar-certified Khecheopalri Lake, a revered wish-fulfilling lake nestled in the serene lap of nature. Upon arrival, the Governor was received by officials from the Forest Department and a gathering of local residents, who extended their warm greetings. As he offered prayers, he honored the lake’s sacred essence, deeply embedded in the spiritual consciousness of the state and its people. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector, Gyalshing, presented the Governor with locally crafted bamboo gifts, celebrating the district’s rich artisanal heritage.
Recognizing Sikkim’s unparalleled natural beauty, the Governor also visited the Khangchendzonga Waterfalls, a breathtaking tourist attraction known for its cascading torrents. Acknowledging the immense potential of eco-tourism in the region, he directed officials to explore sustainable strategies to attract more visitors while ensuring that local communities reap economic benefits from tourism.
The Governor’s final engagement for the day was at the Sashastra Seema Bal 72 BN Camp, Rimbi, where he was received with due honor by Mr Shivdayal Singh, DIG SSB, Mr Jai Prakash, Commandant 72 BN SSB, Mr Narayan Ram Khadaw, Second-in-Command 72 BN SSB, and Mr Sunil Kumar, Second-in-Command SSB Gangtok, along with the dedicated personnel stationed at the camp. Over lunch with the officers and jawans, the Governor expressed his deep appreciation for their unwavering service in safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring the region’s security. In a heartfelt moment of recognition, 72 BN SSB honored the Governor with a token of appreciation, underscoring the mutual respect between the state and its defense forces.
As he concluded his two-day visit, Governor Om Prakash Mathur left behind a message of unity, reverence, and service, strengthening the bridge between governance, spirituality, and national duty in the heart of Sikkim. He was formally seen off by the officials of the Gyalshing District Administration, led by Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, District Collector, marking the successful completion of a visit that reaffirmed his commitment to heritage, community, and national service.
