GOVERNOR INAUGURATES SICHEYGAON SUB POST OFFICE

Gangtok, March 12 (IPR): The inauguration of the newly shifted Sicheygaon Sub Post Office was marked by the unveiling of a plaque and a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Governor Mr Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The event held at New STNM Sochyagang, commenced with the traditional lighting of lamps and a warm welcome song by the Post Office staff.
The Governor in his address, shed light on the pivotal role of the postal service in India's socio-economic landscape, highlighting the remarkable evolution of India's postal network since independence. He emphasised on its crucial role in fostering communication, social cohesion, and economic development, particularly in rural areas. Furthermore, he underscored the modernisation of postal services, recognising their expanded role beyond traditional mail delivery. He lauded initiatives such as the 'Jan Dhan Yojana' and 'Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana', empowering marginalised communities and promoting financial inclusion. Additionally, he commended the integration of postal services into the digital realm, facilitating e-commerce transactions and government services.
The Governor also lauded the efforts of Colonel Akhilesh Pandey, Post Master General, in enhancing postal infrastructure and services, including the establishment of the Post Office Export Centre and Parcel Packaging Unit in Gangtok Head Post Office. He expressed satisfaction over the export of products like Temi organic tea and emphasised the role of postal services in promoting local products on a global scale. He also expressed gratitude to the Post Master General, and the postal staff for their dedication and urged them to continue their efforts to foster social and economic equality through government schemes and initiatives.
Furthermore, the Governor unveiled a special cover commemorating 'Hamro Sankalp: Viksit Bharat Pushpit Sikkim,' symbolising the collective pursuit of national progress and cultural heritage preservation.
Similarly, Post Master General, in his welcome address, highlighted the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Post Office, ranging from digitalisation to the provision of essential services like banking and insurance. He emphasised the Post Office's role as a one-stop solution for various needs, including medical assistance and financial planning.
The event witnessed distribution of new passbooks to depositors, symbolising the beginning of a new chapter for the Sicheygaon Sub Post Office. Post Master Reema Lepcha, alongside the chief guest, facilitated the handing over of the passbooks, reaffirming the commitment to serving the community.
Also present were Dr Ruth Yonjon Medical Superintendent STNM , Nursing College students, locals, depositors, staff, and officials of the Post Office.
