Gangtok District: Poll Day Final Round-Up

Gangtok, April 20 (IPR): The voting for the 09 Assembly Constituencies and 01 Parliamentary Constituency was completed in Gangtok district on Friday, April 19, 2024.
The constituency-wise break up of voter turnout percentage under Gangtok district is as follows:
16-Tumen Lingi- 82.9%
17-Khamdong-Singtam- 78.92%
23-Shyari- 76.84%
24- Martam-Rumtek- 80.79%
25- Upper Tadong- 71.9%
26- Arithang- 67.62%
27- Gangtok- 63.66%
28- Upper Burtuk- 74.09%
32- Sangha- 67.18%
The overall female voter turnout was 75.35% while the male voter turnout in Gangtok district was 75.24%.
The district has 08 Assembly Constituencies, 01 Sangha Constituency and 01 Parliamentary Constituency. As per the data received, 16-Tumen Lingi Constituency recorded the highest total voter turnout in the district with 82.9%.
In a few polling stations voting continued till late in the evening. The voting process was overall peaceful and no major untoward law and order situation was reported in Gangtok district.
There were a total of 132 different polling stations in the district, including 05 all-women-managed polling stations (Pink Booths), 24 women-involved polling stations, and 01 PwD (Persons with Disability) managed polling station.
Upon completion of poll in all the constituencies, the polling parties reached the district collection centre at DIET Burtuk where the EVMs were handed over and stored in the Strong Room under the direct supervision of Mr Tushar G Nikhare, District Election Officer-cum-District Collector Gangtok. Mr Jitendra Kumar, General Observer Gangtok District inspected the reception process of EVMs and VVPATs.
The first polling team to arrive was the team from the 28 Upper Burtuk Assembly Constituency. Upon their arrival, the DEO-cum-DC Gangtok offered khadas to the members of the polling team.
The only PwD (Persons with Disability) polling station in Sikkim also successfully conducted the election at Chintan Bhawan and handed over the polling material.
The sealing process was done in the early hours of the following morning, in the presence of representatives of various political parties.
The EVM and VVPAT machines are kept sealed under constant monitoring and will be heavily guarded by armed personnel until the counting day on June 2, 2024 (for Assembly Constituencies) and June 4, 2024 (for Parliamentary constituencies)
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer informs that the scrutiny of the election papers were carried out today (April 20, 2024) by the Returning Officers and General Observers deputed by the Election Commission of India in the presence of the Representatives of the Candidates. At the end of the scrutiny, the Returning Officers and Observers were satisfied with the Poll process in all the Polling Stations and no Repoll was recommended for any of the Polling Stations in Sikkim.
