Mangan, July 10 (IPR): A meeting conducted by the Women & Child Development Department and Social Welfare Department (SWD), focused on SANKALP: HUB for Empowerment of Women (HEW) took place at DC Mangan’s chamber at DAC, Pentok, today.
The meeting had the presence of ADC Mangan Mr Vishu Lama, ASP Mr Mani Kumar Tamang, CMO Dr. T T Kaleon, SWO Ms Choden Bhutia, Assistant Director (Education) Mr Pintso Tashi, LDM (SBI) Mr Amit Lamichaney, representatives from SBI (Mangan) and staff of SWD and W&CDD.
Ms Choden Bhutia presented an overview of HEW. She highlighted its objectives, which include addressing women’s issues, serving as a Project Management Unit (PMU) and providing access to government benefits. There was an emphasis on raising awareness of government services, combating social evils and ensuring the protection and development of the girl child.
She also highlighted HEW's responsibilities which encompass overseeing scheme implementation, conducting awareness campaigns, capacity building, data management and coordinating with various departments for effective issue resolution. Further, she explained the organisational structure which consists of National, State, and District levels of SANKALP HUBs, with District SANKALP: HEW comprising a team of specialists and coordinators.
She then briefed about the integration with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) involving planning and implementing BBBP activities, providing support to state and district BBBP machinery and ensuring effective BBBP implementation by district-level functionaries.
It was informed that a thematic activity calendar has been prepared that outlines year-round activities to mobilise and register women under various schemes.
One such key event is the regular Mahila Sankalp Sabha, which aims to raise awareness about the scheme.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion, where questions and suggestions were addressed regarding HEW.
