Hornbill Festival 2024 Begins with Grandeur at Kisama
Kohima, December 1 (IPR):
The 25th edition of Hornbill Festival 2024, the festival of festivals, commenced this evening with grandeur at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.
The inauguration ceremony had the presence of Nagaland Governor Mr La Ganesan, who graced the occasion as the chief host, along with Nagaland Chief Minister Mr Neiphiu Rio as the host.
Among the distinguished attendees were Mr Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Advisors, MLAs, tribal leaders, and ambassadors from partner countries such as the United Kingdom, United States, Japan, and Peru.
Dignitaries and participants from various Indian states, including Sikkim as a partner state, as well as officials from civil, military, and central agencies, added to the event's significance.
The event began with an invocation prayer led by Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, followed by a traditional blessing bestowed by Medo-o Keretsü, Head GB, Kohima Village.
In his address, Chief Minister Mr Neiphiu Rio extended a warm welcome to all attendees. He highlighted the festival's 25-year journey as a testament to the resilience, creativity, and unity of the Naga people, calling it a celebration of their rich cultural legacy.
"This festival brings together all tribes and communities in a spirit of unity and oneness, transcending cultural and national boundaries," he remarked.
Governor La Ganesan, in his message, described the Hornbill Festival as the "Festival of Festivals," celebrating the diversity and unity of Nagaland's tribes and India's cultural mosaic. He expressed hope for fostering meaningful dialogues and inspiring brotherhood among the attendees.
During the ceremony, felicitations were presented to several distinguished guests, including Mr Keiichi Ono, Ambassador of Japan to India; Mr Javier Manuel Paulinich Velarde, Ambassador of Peru to India; Ms Lindy Cameron, British High Commissioner to India; Dr AR Rahman, musical maestro; and other notable dignitaries.
The evening promises a cultural extravaganza, featuring performances by partner countries and local artists, showcasing the vibrancy and unity that the Hornbill Festival represents.
Adding to the grandeur, a contingent from Sikkim is actively participating in the Hornbill Festival 2024. The team was flagged off by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on November 29 from Ridge Park, Gangtok. The Sikkim contingent is set to present the state's unique cultural and artistic heritage, further strengthening the bond between Sikkim and Nagaland.
