Joint inspection gets underway to assess the damages caused by surface water

Pakyong, 29 June (IPR): A joint inspection was carried out to assess the damages that occurred due to the surface runoff around Pakyong Bazaar and areas adjacent to Greenfield Airport today.
The inspection team led by Mr. Agwane Rohan Ramesh, DC Pakyong, comprised of Mr. Robin Pd Sewa, ADC (Dev), Mr. Dak Man Subba, SDM Pakyong, Mr Sonam Pintsho Bhutia, DFO Forest & Environment Department, Mr. Arjun Gazmer, DE Water Resources Department, Mr. Bikash Pradhan, DE Roads and Bridges, Mr. Sonam Zangpo Bhutia, DPO Zilla, Mr Bibek Niroula, DPO Pakyong, along with representatives from National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and Airport Authority of India (AAI).
During the visit, the team inspected the areas around Bhanu Golai and Dikling Road and took stock of the damages caused around the area.
Furthermore, a thorough inspection was also conducted at the Greenfield Airport to check the water-flowing channel and assess the extent of damages resulting from the heavy rainfall.
The representatives of NHIDCL and AAI expressed their concerns and presented their strategies to address the management of the water flow process. They also acknowledged the issue of water obstruction and scarcity in the district and ensured to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
DC Pakyong stressed the importance of being accountable to the concerned departments and urged them to maintain coordination while resolving the issue, as the residents and their properties are facing significant impacts. In addition, he also interacted with the families affected and acknowledged their grievances, further ensuring that proper assistance was provided to address their needs.
Furthermore, he urged the officials of NHIDCL and AAI to initiate the maintenance of the existing jhoras and work towards the restoration of the water drainage system so that the diversion of water gets channeled correctly and disposed of in the proper jhoras.
