Kumrek Iron Bridge opens for light vehicles movement
Pakyong, September 30 (IPR):
The authorities of the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) have been working around the clock for the past three days on the segment located at Km 3.300 along the Rangpo-Rorathang road.
Their primary objective has been to stabilise the affected section of the Iron Bridge at Kumrek, which has encountered substantial challenges due to unforeseen circumstances. The team has been employing various engineering solutions to ensure both the safety and longevity of the structure.
Traffic movement for light vehicles has now been reinstated across the Iron Bridge. While light vehicles are permitted to use the bridge, it is advised that they exercise caution as ongoing safety assessments continue to monitor the situation closely.
It is imperative to note that the crossing of all heavy vehicles, including essential utility vehicles, tippers, and buses, remains prohibited until further notice. This decision has been enacted as a precautionary measure to prevent undue stress on the structure that could compromise its integrity.
Alternative routes have been temporarily established to accommodate heavy vehicles, which must now traverse a detour across the river adjacent to the bridge.
Regular updates will be communicated to all stakeholders, and all motorists are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to the guidelines prescribed by the authorities while navigating the area.
