Mangan distributes Milk Price Support Incentives to Dairy Cooperative Societies
Mangan, May 3 (IPR): Minister for Social Welfare and WCSC&D Welfare Department, Mr Samdup Lepcha initiated the distribution of milk price support @₹8 per litre incentives in a programme held in Ringhim Nampatam GPU on Friday.
As a token, the Minister handed over the milk incentives to three Dairy Cooperative Societies in the GPU. Ringhim Dairy Cooperative Society received an incentive amount of ₹1,70,208, Nampatam Dairy Cooperative Society received ₹1,36,505 as incentive and Kalow Dairy Cooperative Society was handed over milk incentive of ₹59,290.
The Minister encouraged farmers to take a proactive role not only as consumers but also as producers, urging them to make full use of government schemes launched under the guidance of Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang to enhance productivity and ensure economic independence. He emphasised the long-term benefits of such incentives and the role of dairy in rural development.
In continuation, distribution of milk price support incentive @₹8 per litre for the dairy farmers of various Dairy Coperative Societies under NDMU, Mangan was conducted successfully today. The distribution programme was conducted in the presence of Up-Adhakshya MDZP Ms Sonam Kipa Bhutia, Chairman NDMU, Mr Samten Bhutia, and Board of Directors. The officers present in the Programme were Additional Director, AH&VS , Dr Dechen O. Kaleon, JD AH&VS-cum- MD NDMU Dr Hissay D. Lepcha, Joint Registrar, Cooperation Department , Mr R.H. Subba, Assistant Manager, SISCO Bank, Mangan , Ms Sawarnata Subba, Assistant Manager (Acc&Adm) NDMU Mr B K Rai, ADDO(NDMU) Ms Bindhya Gurung, ADDO(NDMU), Mr Aron Subba, VOs and staff of NDMU and dairy farmers of the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Up-Adhakshya, Mangan District, Ms Sonam Kipa Bhutia congratulated the progressive farmers and underlined the significance of cooperative societies striving for excellence. She highlighted the various schemes available under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang across sectors including dairy, agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries. She called on the secretaries and presidents of cooperative societies to actively disseminate information about available benefits, encouraging collective participation for improved livelihoods and employment generation. She also reminded attendees of the importance of commitment and consistency in realising the sector’s full potential.
Joint Registrar, Cooperation Department , Mangan District, Mr R.H Subba underscored the importance of the cooperative model, noting that success within such systems depend on efficient management, transparency, and shared responsibility. He stressed that cooperative principles must guide day-to-day functioning for sustained growth.
Addressing public health concerns, Additional Director, AH&VS, Dr Dechen O. Kaleon spoke on the risk of zoonotic diseases, particularly the spread of TB through unscreened milk and meat. She urged cooperative societies to schedule TB screening dates promptly in coordination with the Health Department for timely intervention.
Highlighting the importance of quality production, Managing Director of NDMU Dr Hissay D. Lepcha congratulated the dairy farmers for their continued efforts and reiterated the need to maintain high standards across the dairy value chain. She confirmed that incentives will be credited directly to individual farmers' bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), based on the volume of milk supplied.
As part of the programme, the top three performing Dairy Cooperative Societies of Mangan district are:
1. Upper Tingzay Dairy Cooperative Society – ₹3,06,376.00
2. Tibuk Dairy Cooperative Society – ₹2,91,728.00
3. Ambithang Dairy Cooperative Society – ₹2,18,792.00
It may be noted that the Milk Price Support initiative, introduced in April 2020, has been providing regular financial support to dairy farmers across dairy cooperative societies of Mangan District. This particular milk price support amounting ₹ 16,48,629.00 is from the period of February 2024 to March 2025.
In addition to the milk price incentives, the programme also saw the distribution of power operated chaff cutter through feed and fodder section to five progressive farmers of Mangan district.
