Mangan observes National Fire Service Week
Mangan, April 15 (IPR): Sikkim Fire and Emergency Service Mangan conducted an awareness-cum-demonstration programme at Mangan bazar today to mark Fire Service Day. The programme was held under the theme “Unity to Ignite, A Fire Safe India”.
The programme was part of the National Fire Service Week observed every year throughout the country from 14th to 20th April to raise public awareness about fire safety.
The programme began with a foot rally from Bus Dara to Lal Bazar, with an active participation from students and stakeholders of Mangan.
The rally culminated at the Mangan Nagar Panchayat hall, the main venue of the awareness programme.
The programme began with the welcome speech by Lance Naik Mr Ganga Prashad Limboo, during which he briefed the gathering about the event. He also shared a story explaining the significance behind the observance of Fire Service Week.
Subsequently, the Fire Anthem was performed enthusiastically by the staff of Mangan Fire Station, showcasing their commitment to fire safety and community service.
This was followed by a talk by Sub-Fire Officer Mr Raj Kumar Pradhan, who spoke about how forest fires are often caused by human activities and the devastating impact they have on nature and wildlife. He also discussed both the beneficial and harmful aspects of fire, urging the public to handle fire responsibly and avoid careless behavior.
Following that, different types of fire extinguishers training was conducted by Leading Fireman Mr Chetan Chettri, who also created awareness among shop owners about the proper use of fire extinguishers. He explained that if the indicator shows green, the extinguisher is functional, whereas a red indicator means it is not in working condition.
Chief Education Officer Mangan, Mr David Lingdong, who was present as the chief guest, highlighted that fire can also be caused by electrical sources. He advised all students to be cautious around water in contact with electrical appliances or wires.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms Monika Pradhan.
This was followed by a live demonstration of fire safety measures outside the MNP hall.
The programme had the presence of Joint RTO, Transport Department, Mr Tempo Rinzing Bhutia as a special guest. Also present were SHO Mangan Mr Prashant Rai, Councillor Mr Hangu Lachenpa, Councillor Ms Tshering Doma Bhutia and Councillor Ms Premkit Lepcha.
