Namchi BAC celebrates Block level International Women's Day
Namchi, January 20 (IPR): Block level International Women’s Day 2025 was celebrated at the Block Administrative Centre( BAC) Namchi, today.
The programme was organised under the theme “ Re- Inventing Motherhood: Connecting Mother's Back to their Childhood Hobbies & Interests”
The event was graced by Mr Satish Chandra Rai MLA Namchi-Singhithang Constituency as the Chief Guest.
He was accompanied by Ms Roma Tamang Former Chairperson of Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SPCR), Ms Sabitri Tamang Vice Chairman NMC, Councillors NMC, Zilla Panchayats from Namchi-Singithang Constituency, Dr CP Rai ADC Development Namchi, Mr Upendra Rai BDO Namchi, Mr Rajiv Singh DMS Namchi, Ms Hemala Rai Assistant Nursing Superintendent ( ANS), HoOs from various department and Suppliers from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act ( MGNREGA).
Also, present during the programme were Assistant Engineers, Panchayat members, staff members of BAC Namchi, members from Self Help Groups ( SHG) and women from diverse backgrounds who participated in today's programme. The event also saw a crucial highlight for women’s rights and their pivotal role in the society over the years.
MLA Namchi-Singithang, Mr Satish Chandra Rai expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards the staff and members of BAC Namchi for a successful conduction of the Pre Celebration of the International Women’s Day.
He highlighted the significance of 8th March, which marks International Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements and contributions of women across the globe.
A special moment in the programme was the performance by Senior Citizen Women, who showcased a dance number despite the limitations of aging. He was deeply moved by their spirit and dedication, acknowledging their performance with heartfelt appreciation.
Further, he emphasized that women in Sikkim are already empowered and that the State of Sikkim has set high standards in gender equality and women's participation in the society.
While, recognizing the empowerment of women in the state, he also took the opportunity to address critical issues like the concern over rising drug use and high suicide rates in Sikkim.
Meanwhile, he also addressed the growing issue of stray dogs in public spaces and urged the NGO’s in relocating them to nearby shelters and safer homes.
He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness where he encouraged the public to keep their home compounds clean and to the employees of all the departments to keep their office premises clean, in order to contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Mr Upendra Rai addressed the gathering and applauded the women worldwide for their invaluable contribution towards the shaping of a society. He paid respect to all the women who have set a remarkable benchmark of change and evolution, inspiring future generations.
During his speech, he elaborated the evolution of women over the years from fighting for their rights to standing at par with men, creating a global revolution of change.
He emphasised the importance of recognizing and empowering women in today's world. Additionally, he praised Namchi Block for it's outstanding contribution in carving a niche and excelling remarkably over the years.
The event also featured an Inter- GPU Creative Writing and Performing Arts Competition, where participants showcased their talents. Also, the audience got to witness beautiful dance performances and skit plays from the staff and members from BAC Namchi but, the highlight of the day was the opening dance performance by the Senior Citizen Women , who gleefully danced to a nostalgic old Nepali song reflecting the journey of the aging life of a women.
Following this, a mesmerizing Poem Recitation was done by Ms Sabitri Chettri, Ms Munna Rai and Ms Anusha Tamang from various GPU’s. Their poetry, also took the audience through an emotional journey through the life of a woman which left an everlasting impact to the audience.
Later, winners for the Inter GPU Creative Writing, Performing Arts and Art and Craft Competition was facilited with certificates and awards of recognition for their effort.
The winners for the above mentioned categories are as follows :

Rong-Bul GPU.
The winners will thereby represent the district for the State Level Competition.
A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour, Ms Roma Tamang former Chairperson of Sikkim Commission for Protection of Child Rights ( SPCR) for her indelible contribution as a women of influence in our state. She was acknowledged with deep appreciation, recognizing her commitment and efforts in her field.
Additionally, the outgoing Assistant Engineer ( AE) Mr Khem Lall Chettri BAC Namchi was awarded a Letter of Appreciation for his exemplary service to the state and his department, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the institution .
The event also welcomed Mr Nilesh Rai who has now taken charge as the new (AE) BAC Namchi. He was warmly received and extended best wishes for his new role, ensuring a smooth transition within the department.
It maybe mentioned here that inorder to appreciate and encourage the Panchayats and public of each GPU, Mr Upendra Rai BDO Namchi presented a certificate of merits in different categories to every GPU under Namchi Block through the Chief guest.
