PM Vishwakarma Scheme Awareness and Training Programme Conducted in Pakyong District
Pakyong, February 05 (IPR):
A one-day awareness cum block-level training programme on the PM Vishwakarma scheme was organised by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development and Facilitation Office, Gangtok, in association with the District Administration Centre, Pakyong, at the RDD Community Complex, RURBAN Pakyong, today.
The programme aimed to educate traditional artisans and craftspeople about the PM Vishwakarma scheme and encourage skill development in the district.
Mr Rohan Agawane, District Collector Pakyong cum chairman, emphasised the significance of the traditional artisans and craftspeople sector and the role of the PM Vishwakarma scheme in its upliftment. He urged participants to register under the scheme and help position the district as a top performer in its implementation.
In addition, he outlined the scheme’s three components, enrolment, upskilling, and financial support, and highlighted loan provisions for artisans. Furthermore, he directed officials to submit a report on fifty genuine beneficiaries from each Gram Panchayat Unit, with a specified timeline for completion.
To strengthen implementation, he proposed training centres at each block for skill development and easier access to resources. He also stressed regular monitoring and coordination among stakeholders to maximise the scheme’s impact.
Likewise, Mr Robin Pd Sewa, ADC (Dev), informed the attendees that a Common Service Centre (CSC) has been set up at the ADC office, allowing beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma scheme to complete their registration.
He urged the eligible beneficiaries to complete their registration, improve their skills through the upskilling opportunities offered, and take full advantage of the benefits provided by the PM Vishwakarma scheme, helping Pakyong District rise to prominence in skill development and economic empowerment.
At the outset of the programme, Mr Nirmal Chaudary, Assistant Director and HOD, MSME-DFO Gangtok, delivered the keynote address, providing an overview of the PM Vishwakarma scheme, a government initiative aimed at supporting traditional artisans and craftspeople engaged in 18 identified trades.
He provided an overview of the scheme's objectives, benefits, and the registration process through CSC, along with details on recognition, skill training and financial assistance. He also outlined the roles and responsibilities of panchayat members in overseeing the verification process.
Further, he urged craftspeople and traditional artisans to register under the scheme in their respective trades to maximise its benefits.
Mr Amitabh Nandi, CSC representative, conducted an online demonstration on the registration process and application submission, along with spot registration of beneficiaries.
Additionally, a question-and-answer session was held, providing participants with the opportunity to clarify any doubts related to the process.
Also present at the programme were panchayat members, Block Development Officers from various blocks under the district, bank representatives and beneficiaries.
