Pakyong DLMC Reviews MBPCL Operations, Emphasises Environmental and Industrial Safety

Pakyong, April 15 (IPR): The District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) of Pakyong District, headed by Additional District Collector Pakyong, Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, conducted its scheduled bi-monthly inspection of Madhya Bharat Power Corporation Limited (MBPCL) at Rangpo today.
The inspection was attended by departmental officials, including Superintending Engineer of the EHV division from the Power Department, Mr Karma D Bhutia; Senior Geologist from the Mines and Geology Department, Mr Passang Sherpa; Block Development Officer Duga, Mr Chophel Bhutia; District Information Officer IPRD, Ms Deeki D. Bhutia; Assistant Conservator of Forest (Rangpo), Mr Navin Gurung; along with representatives from various other line departments and MBPCL.
The primary aim of the inspection was to monitor and ensure adherence to safety regulations, assess operational efficiency, and promote a secure working environment for both workers and the surrounding community. The committee emphasised the importance of maintaining strict compliance with environmental and industrial safety protocols.
During the visit, the DLMC reviewed the follow-up actions taken since the last inspection. This included evaluating improvements in safety infrastructure, reviewing the maintenance and functionality of key machinery, and assessing the working processes in place at the MBPCL plant.
During the visit, ADC Pakyong issued specific instructions for the construction of a protection wall along the plant’s riverside outlet, a precautionary measure aimed at mitigating flood-related risks during the upcoming monsoon season. He also recommended the installation of additional safety signage in and around the vicinity of the plant to raise awareness and ensure public safety.
The inspection team undertook a comprehensive site visit, touring critical components of the facility, including the powerhouse and switchyard. MBPCL officials briefed the delegation on the technical aspects of the hydropower project, elaborating on current operations, safety mechanisms, and ongoing development work.
The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the committee to rigorously monitor and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure sustainable and responsible industrial operations in the region.
