Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 Pakyong Concludes with Calls for Healthy Lifestyle and Nutrition Awareness

The concluding ceremony of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024, organised by the Pakyong Rural Project in collaboration with Zone II Anganwadi Workers, took place today at the Assam Lingzey Gram Prashasan Kendra (GPK) conference hall in Pakyong.
Rashtriya Poshan Maah is an annual initiative established under the POSHAN Abhiyan (Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment), themed around "Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi, and the Use of Technology for Better Governance."
Ms Suman Rai, Zilla Panchayat and Chief Guest for the event, during her address, emphasised the importance of healthy eating for overall well-being.
Ms Sita Sharma, Panchayat President, elaborated on the advantages of a nutritious diet and a healthy lifestyle to transform lives, urging attendees to refrain from consuming junk food and to engage in regular exercise for enhanced longevity.
Moreover, Mr BP Pandey, Headmaster of Gaucharan Junior High School, provided insights into the theme of Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2024 and commended the diligent efforts of Anganwadi Workers (AWW) and Helpers (AWH) in facilitating the successful month-long initiative.
Mr Dilkhush Mohora, Vice Panchayat President, articulated the merits of a healthy lifestyle, accentuating the necessity to promote nutrition awareness and contribute towards the state's aspirations of achieving Sunaulo and Samridha Sikkim.
Mr Dadhup Bhutia, Panchayat member, underscored the pivotal role of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in fostering children's holistic development while raising awareness about the significance of nutrition in leading a disease-free life.
Opening the event, Ms Swapnil Swarupa Giri, Nutrition Inspector, Women & Child Development Department, stressed the necessity of a well-balanced and nutritious diet while elucidating its benefits. She particularly highlighted the nutritional value of millet, offering creative meal preparation suggestions to ensure children receive essential nutrients and prevent health issues such as malnutrition.
The event also featured a display of fresh and nutritious vegetables and food products, along with a series of activities, including musical performances, meal competitions, skits, and Zumba sessions.
In attendance were Ms Neha Chettri, ICDS Supervisor from the Women and Child Development Department, panchayat members, headmasters and headmistresses from various schools, teachers, students, health officials, alongside and Anganwadi workers.
