SSHRC observes the World Human Rights Day 2019

Gangtok, Dec 10 (IPR): The Sikkim State Human Rights Commission (SSHRC) observed the World Human Rights Day in the office of the Commission here today the 10th December, 2019, SSHRC Member, Shri M.G. Kiran , IAS (Retd) administered the World Human Rights Day pledge to the officers and staff of the Commission.
The SSHRC Member, in his brief address, elucidated the significance of the day and also read out the Pledge of the Human Rights Day. The National Human Rights Commission was established by the Government of India under Section 3 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. During the last 26 years, the commission has been earnestly working for the promotion and protection of human rights in India. By enacting the Protection of Human Rights Act and constituting the National Human Rights Commission, Government of India has not only fulfilled its international obligations, but also demonstrated India’s dedication and commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights. It is also part of the endeavor to achieve the Constitutional goal of assuring the dignity of the individual. The National Human Rights Commission is the symbol of Indian ‘ s willingness and capability to cooperate with other nations to promote and protect human rights anywhere and everywhere. On 10 December, 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which provides a common standard of achievement for all people and all nations. Considering the world – wide historic significance of the Declaration, 10th December is observed as the World Human Rights Day every year. In pursuance to the Provision of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993, Sikkim State Human Rights Commission was also constituted by the State Government in October, 2008 with its Headquarter at Gangtok. The office is located in Manan Bhawan, Development Area, Gangtok.
