Date: 06-Nov-2024
Gangtok, November 6 (IPR):
The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay has expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi and Road Transport and Highways Minister, Mr Nitin Gadkari for their decision to assign the repair and maintenance of National Highway-10 (NH-10) to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL). This move, described by the Chief Minister as “transformative,” is expected to bring significant improvements to the region’s infrastructure, benefiting the people, economy, and daily lives across Sikkim.
In recent discussions with the central government, the Sikkim administration has emphasised the essential role NH-10 plays in the lives of Sikkim residents. The highway serves as the state’s main transportation artery, facilitating both the movement of goods and daily commutes. With NHIDCL now overseeing its upkeep, the Chief Minister is optimistic that the region will witness not only routine repairs and maintenance but also critical expansions and enhancements.
“This progress will directly benefit our people, ensuring safer commutes and a more efficient transport network,” the Chief Minister said. The initiative is particularly welcomed by the local drivers’ community, including taxi drivers, bus operators, and truckers, who rely on NH-10 as the backbone of Sikkim’s transport system.
The Chief Minister praised this decision as a turning point, stating, “NH-10 will be managed as the vital lifeline it truly is.” Sikkim residents are looking forward to a future where NH-10 flourishes under NHIDCL’s guidance, marking a new chapter in regional development, he shared.
