Sikkim Gears Up for the 8th Northeast Youth Festival 2025
Gangtok, February 17 (IPR): Mr R Telang, Chief Secretary of the Government of Sikkim, presided over a meeting with Sports and Youth Affairs Department along with relevant departments at Teesta Lounge, Tashiling Secretariat, today.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the preparation of the 8th North East Youth Festival 2025, scheduled to take place from March 17 to March 20, 2025, in Gangtok. The meeting was attended by Heads of Departments (HODs) as well as Mr Tenzing L Lepcha, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gangtok; Mr RB Bhandari, Municipal Commissioner, GMC; and Mr Bhawani S Ghimeray, Officer on Special Duty for Culture Department, along with other senior officials and staff from the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
The Chief Secretary emphasised the necessity for a meticulous organisation, advocating for coordination and collaboration among the departments involved. He urged the department to create a lasting impression on the participants so that they might serve as ambassadors for Sikkim upon returning to their respective states.
Ms Yangchen Tamang, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, delivered a PowerPoint presentation detailing the organisational aspects of the Youth Festival. She indicated that the Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, is organising the festival under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The festival is anticipated to attract over 1,200 participants across various competitive and non-competitive events from different states within the North East. She emphasised the need for cooperation from various departments, highlighting that a national-level event of this magnitude cannot be executed without the support of multiple government entities.
The meeting concluded with a discussion focused on the organisation of the festival, wherein various suggestions were presented to enhance overall coordination and effectiveness.
