Soreng District Inspection Committee led by ADM Soreng Inspect Child Care Homes in Soreng District
Soreng, November 29 (IPR): The District Inspection Comittee led by Mr DR Bista Additional District Magistrate (ADM Soreng), Ms Gauri Tamang (CDPO), Mr Peter Rai (DCPO), Ms TM Sharma (Protection Officer), Ms Varsha Chettri (Welfare Inspector), Ms Aeromeena Lepcha (Legal cum Probation Officer) and Ms Nisha Chettri (Outreach worker) and counselors conducted a comprehensive inspection of all three child care homes in the district on 28/11/2024 and 29/11/2024.
The visit aimed to evaluate the living conditions, facilities, and overall welfare of the children housed in these care homes, ensuring compliance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and other relevant regulations.
During the inspection, the ADM interacted with the children, staff, and management to assess their needs and address any challenges faced by the institutions. The key areas of focus included:
1. Infrastructure and Hygiene:
A detailed review of the physical infrastructure, including accommodation, sanitation, kitchen facilities, and recreational spaces, was conducted to ensure that the homes provide a safe and clean environment.
2. Health and Nutrition:
The ADM verified the availability of nutritious meals and healthcare facilities, ensuring the physical and mental well-being of the children.
3. Education and Skill Development:
The educational arrangements and skill development programs were inspected to ensure the children are being provided with opportunities for holistic growth and future self-reliance.
4. Safety and Security:
Safety protocols, child protection policies, and grievance mechanisms were evaluated to safeguard the rights and dignity of the children.
The ADM appreciated the efforts of the care home staff in creating a nurturing environment for the children. Some suggestions were put forth by the team to the management, certain areas requiring improvement were identified and the team directed the management and assured them of the district administration’s support in addressing the issues.
ADM Soreng mentioned that the district administration is committed to upholding the rights and well-being of children and will continue to monitor child care homes regularly.
