Strengthening Agriculture: DLMC Meeting on “10000 Farmer Producer Organisations”
Pakyong, 9 September (IPR): A District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC) meeting, under the scheme “10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations” (FPOs), was chaired by Mr Agawane Rohan Ramesh, DC Pakyong, at the conference hall of DAC, Pakyong, today.
The scheme is supported by the Government of India, with the formation and promotion of FPOs being carried out through designated implementing agencies.
The meeting focused on monitoring ongoing activities and coordinating with implementing agencies under the scheme "Formation and Promotion of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).“
During the meeting, discussions centred on ensuring that the FPOs receive the necessary support to strengthen their business models and promote the welfare of farmers. Emphasis was placed on providing comprehensive training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of FPO members, which will help them manage their operations more effectively.
DC Pakyong, in his address, emphasised the importance of linking FPOs with potential markets to secure better prices for their produce and ensure their long-term sustainability. He urged implementing agencies to maintain regular coordination with the departments and FPOs to address challenges and facilitate sustainable growth.
Prior to the meeting, Ms Rebecca Gurung, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, highlighted the formation of three FPOs under Pakyong District:
*Cherry Blossom FPO Cooperative Society Ltd., with the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Kolkata as the implementing agency and supported by Cluster Based Business Organisation (CBBO) ICAR-NRCO Pakyong.
*Premlakah Subaneydara FPO Cooperative Society Ltd., with NCDC Kolkata as the implementing agency and supported by CBBO ICAR-NRCO Pakyong.
*Pendam Organic Agro Feed Cooperative Society Ltd., with NAFED Guwahati as the implementing agency and supported by CBBO Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd.
The meeting highlighted the need for sustained support and effective coordination to ensure the success of the FPOs.
Also present during the meeting were S Goswami, Director NCDC, SICUN Assam Lingey; Mr Prajwal Pradhan, CEO Beekeeping; Dr Chandan Gowob.H, Scientist, ICAR NRW, Pakyong; Dr Boniface Lepcha, SMS Horticulture, ICAR KVK, East Sikkim; Dr JK Singh, SMS Plant Breeding, ICAR KVK, East Sikkim; Ms Nirulata Chettri, Sr Audit Office Cooperation Department; Mrs Gouri Mukhia, Assistant Director Fisheries Department; Ms Menuka Rai, Horticulture Development Officer Horticulture Department; Ms Srijana Gurung, HDO Horticulture Department; Mr KK Sharma, ADO Rhenock, and representatives from NAFED Guwahati, and Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd.
