The water yatra campaign under WDC-PMKSY 2.0
Namchi, February 10 (IPR):
The water yatra campaign under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 Sikkim was successfully organised by Project implementing agency under state level nodal agency forest and environment department, programme at Nandugoan (Poklok GPK) Namchi, today.
The event was graced by the Ms Anjeeta Rajalim, the Zilla Adhyaksha Namchi, as the chief guest. She was accompanied by Ms Anuka Sharma Panchayat President 38 Poklok GPU, Mr Narad Sharma Deputy Director education nandugoan block, Mr Mukesh Dahal BDO Nandugoan Namchi, Ms Marmit Lepcha DFO Namchi, Ms Sabi Gadaily ACF Namchi, panchayats of nandugoan poklok GPK, panchayats of tinik chisopani, panchayats of assangthang, other dignitaries, Forest staffs, staffs of Nandugoan Poklok GPK, and local residents.
This initiative seeks to educate and raise awareness about the importance of preserving our environment, management watershed, providing access to clean drinking water, and promoting sustainable living through forestation.
Ms Anjeeta Rajalim, the Zilla Adhyaksha Namchi, In her address provided an overview of the Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 (WDC-PMKSY 2.0) and urged everyone to work together to achieve further progress in this project. Additionally, she discussed the Jal Jeevan Mission highlighting the state government efforts to provide water to the people. She also emphasized the issue of water scarcity in the region and its impact on the community.
Furthermore, she showcased various schemes and incentive policies initiated by the state government, aiming to address the challenges of water scarcity and promote sustainable development. These initiatives are crucial in ensuring the well-being of the people and the environment.
Ms. Marmit Lepcha, DFO Namchi, highlighted the key aspects of the Watershed Yatra campaign under WDC-PMKSY 2.0, emphasizing its focus on providing benefits to the community through various watershed projects. She stressed the importance of water conservation and discussed the initiative by Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang, "Pani Jivan Ho, Pani Jogawna nai Jivan ani Bhawisha Jogawnu ho," which aims to promote sustainable water management practices. Moreover, she encouraged everyone to collaborate and work towards achieving further progress in this project.
Ms. Bishnu Maya Sharma a Zilla Panchayat member from 38 Poklok GPU, urged farmers to take an active role in the project to reap its full benefits. She emphasised the importance of collective effort in achieving progress and improving their livelihoods. She also praised the Forest Department's efforts and expressed her hope for continued collaboration and progress in the future.
The event commenced with a ceremonial Bhoomi Poojan performed by Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim, the Zilla Adhyaksha Namchi, to mark the inauguration of a rooftop rainwater harvesting system at Nandugoan Sr. Sec School, implemented under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 by the Forest and Environment Department.
Further the event kicked off with a swearing ceremony followed by a rally from Nandugoan Sr. Sec School to Poklok GPK. Participants marched together chanting the slogan “Pani Jivan Ho, Pani Jogawna nai Jivan ani Bhawisha Jogawnu ho”.
The programme also presented skit performed by the social forestry staff “Jamen ani pani ko raksha- Bhawishya ko surakshya”. Additionally a quiz competition was held engaging participants in an interactive exchange.
The event also featured a Lokarpan video screening, showcasing the Watershed Yatra film, the Watershed Yatra theme song, and various Watershed Development works. Additionally, a video screening was also presented on the vehicle of awardee farmers produced by the Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
During the event certificate of felicitation were presented to participants to progressive farmers from different Gram Panchayat units (GPUs) for Watershed Path Darshak. The awardees were:
1. Bishnu Kumar Rai- Assangthang GPU
2. Padam Bahadhur Kami- Tinik Chisopani GPU
3. Rup Lal Gurung- Tinik Chisopani GPU
4. Balindra Rai- Poklok (GPU)
5. Bikram Rai-Poklok (GPU)
"Similarly, Palden Lepcha from Denchung received a token of appreciation for his remarkable artwork, a vibrant painting of a watershed landscape on the wall at Nandugoan Poklok (GPK)."
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks followed by a sharing of experiences by the awardees of Watershed Margadarshaks.
