Gangtok, July 6: Printing and Stationery Department, Government of Sikkim warmly welcomed Mr Samdup Lepcha, Hon’ble Minister for Women and Child Development(WCDD), Social Welfare, and Printing and Stationery Departments, at its office located in Jewels Building, Tadong on July 4.
Dr AB Karki, Secretary, Printing and Stationery Department accompanied the Hon’ble Minister and visited the technical sections of the office and interacted with the employees.
Hon’ble Minister thanked the staff for their warm welcome. He expressed his happiness to be associated with a unique and historic department established in 1913. He commended the enthusiasms of the staff and manual efforts in producing the required printing stationeries for various Government organisations. He encouraged the exploration and adoption of new technologies to enhance the production and generate more revenue for the Government of Sikkim.
The Hon’ble Minister assured his full support to address the formation of a printing cadre, modernisation of printing machines, construction of a new building for Sikkim Press, and the possibility of establishing a branch office in Jorethang to provide easier services to the South and West Sikkim.
Earlier, Mr Chopel Lepcha, Director congratulated the Hon’ble Minister for his resounding victory in the recently concluded General Elections 2024. He thereafter, provided an in-depth presentation on the office's functions. He also highlighted the dedication and commitment of the staff, who often work overtime under challenging conditions in the old, cramped structure of Jewels Building, handling various machines and chemicals on the production floors. He also emphasised the absence of a printing cadre in the department, which has led to stagnation in promotions and affected staff motivation.
The staff expressed their gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister for his visit and presented their long-standing grievances, seeking his support for an early intervention.
