Second stakeholder meeting on drafting of State Startup Policy for Sikkim by Commerce & Industries Department
Gangtok, Aug 30: In continuation to the first meeting on the drafting of the State Startup Policy, which was conducted on Aug 23, a second round of meeting was conducted by the Commerce & Industries Department with Startup India team from New Delhi and local stake holders including CEO, Atal Incubation Centre – SMUTBI, SEED Cell, SISCO Bank, SKVIB and founders of startups from Sikkim.
Mr M. Ravikumar, Director, MSME chaired the meeting and reiterated the need of the policy in the state to support existing and potential startups. He emphasized the state's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, highlighting the policy's role in creating a conducive environment for startups to thrive. He further requested Startup India team to submit a proposal to Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DPIIT), Govt of India for relaxation of the criteria for the startups of Sikkim who are not incorporated to register under DPIIT to avail the benefits offered by the Government of India.
Mr Topden Zangpo, Joint Secretary, spoke about the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives proposed under the policy. He also requested the stakeholders to provide feedback and any inputs that can be included under the policy.
This Startup India team gave a presentation on the various support offered by Government of India to startups registered under DPIIT. The team shared insights into various initiatives designed to support early-stage ventures and scale-ups, encouraging startups from Sikkim to actively participate and benefit from these programs. They also informed about the various types of funding like Seed Fund, Fund of Funds and CTMSE for Startups that can be availed by the startups of the state. These funds and schemes are designed to support various stages of a startup's journey, from early-stage development to scaling up operations.
This was followed by an open discussion where the stake holders shared the challenges and roadblocks that they face and the areas where the state departments and the central government can provide their interventions.
The meeting concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Joint Secretary where it was informed that the next meeting for the State Startup Policy will be conducted with the various state departments for their inputs and feedback.
