DGBR TAKES STOCK OF RESTORATION WORKS IN NORTH SIKKIM
Despite havoc caused by incessant rains, Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, VSM Director General Border Roads (DGBR) undertook three days visit in Sikkim and took stock of on going restoration & construction works on various roads in Sikkim. During the visit, DGBR was accompanied by Shri Harinder Kumar, AVSM, VSMAdditional Director General Border Roads (East). On first day of his visit, Brig Manoj Gupta, Chief Engineer Project Swastik briefed DGBR on various works related aspects including ongoing restoration works and progress made on proposed National Highway Double Lane work erstwhile Bharatmala Pariyogna in North Sikkim. After making quick assessment of ongoing restoration works, DGBR visited Hon’ble Governor and Chief Minister of Sikkim and briefed them about restoration works. He also assured dignitaries that as monsoon season is about to end in the state, restoration work will be expedited. DGBR also interacted with Shri V B Pathak, Chief Secretary, Sikkim and expressed his gratitude for all the support extended by State Govt. DGBR apprised Chief Secretary about various challenges being faced by BRO in the State during ongoing restoration and proposed National Highway Double Lane work in North Sikkim. Chief Secretary assured DGBR for all the support.
On 01 Oct 2024, both DGBR & ADGBR travelled to North Sikkim and inspected ongoing restoration works on Dikchu-Sanklang road, Sanklang-Toong road, Chungthang-Lachen road. DGBR visited Theng tunnel and took stock of damages suffered at the access points. Later, he inspected Naga-Toong where entire hill face has become unstable. Chief Engineer updated DGBR about heavy sinking in general area Naga-Toongand challenges faced by BRO towards restoration of connectivity along the axis.
On 02 Oct 2024, DGBR inspected ongoing works in East Sikkim. At conclusion of his visit, DGBR appreciated the hard work put in by Project Swastikwhile undertaking restoration works despite numerous challenges and constraints on ground and also assured state government that ongoing restoration works will be expedited. Before leaving Sikkim, DGBR & ADGBR planted a tree at HQ Swastik on theme “Ek Ped Maa KeNaam”.
