Mega AYUSH Outreach Health Camp Benefits over 230 Individuals in Lumsey
Gangtok, 3rd October 2024: A one-day Mega AYUSH Outreach Health Camp was successfully organized at Lumsey Secondary School, benefitting around 230 members of the local community. The event, aimed at promoting holistic health through traditional and alternative medicine systems, saw active participation from a team of doctors representing Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Sowa-Rigpa (Amchi), and Homeopathy from AYUSH Hospital, New STNM, Sochakgang.
Patients were provided with free medical consultations and medications from various AYUSH systems. Additionally, they were screened for diabetes and anemia, and were provided with informative educational material (IEC) on topics such as aging through the lens of Ayurveda, heart attack and stroke prevention, Dinacharya (daily routine for maintaining health), and the benefits of Yoga and Naturopathy.
The camp also offered eye screenings, including cataract and vision assessments, and counseling sessions by mental health counselors were conducted for those in need.
Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Health Minister, Shri G.T. Dhungel, encouraged the public to take advantage of the free alternative treatments for chronic illnesses available at various AYUSH co-located facilities in PHCs, CHCs, District Hospitals and at AYUSH Hospital, at Kyongsa & New STNM, Sochakgang, where inpatient services are also offered.
The camp was graced by the presence of Principal Director-cum-Mission Director for the National AYUSH Mission, Dr. Pema Seden Lepcha; Additional Director-cum-State Program Officer, Dr. Karma Chaden Bhutia; members of the School Managing Committee, Ward Councilors from the Tadong area, SHGs, and local youth groups & ASHAs.
These camps are organized by National Ayush Mission, Health and Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Sikkim wherein, till today over 65 such health camps have been held so far at remote parts of State by Ayush Doctors. The AYUSH Health Camp is part of Government’ ongoing efforts to enhance Public Health Outreach, particularly in underserved communities, by integrating alternative medical systems into mainstream healthcare.
