Workshop for developing NCERT text books
A workshop for text book writing team of NCERT who are developing Mathematics text books of classes 4 and 5 was organized in Gangtok by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT-Delhi) in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT-Sikkim). The workshop conducted from 3rd to 7th October had presence of text book writers from NCERT-Delhi, National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE-Delhi), Azim Premji University (Bengaluru), Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS-Mumbai), Rishi Valley Schools (Bengaluru), Government Schools of Delhi and representatives from different NGOs working on Education.
The team was welcomed by representatives of SCERT led by its Director – Dr Rabin Chhetri, who is also a member of National Syllabus and TLM Committee (NSTC) of NCERT. During the workshop, the text book writing team of SCERT-Sikkim – Mr Rajiv Philips (Dy Director- SCERT), Mr Shekhar Chhetri (Principal – Kitam SSS), Mr K B Limboo (Principal – Pabyuik SSS), Ms Trinity Grace (Head- Middle Syari PS), Mr Kuldeep Sharma (Lecturer SCERT) and Ms Uma Sharma (TNSSS- Gangtok) who had developed primary level Mathematics Text Books of Sikkim interacted with the national team and shared their experiences of writing text books. The Sikkim Text Books of primary level (Classes 1 to 5) developed by SCERT-Sikkim are being used as one of the resource materials by the National Team of NCERT.
The Additional Chief Secretary – Shri Ravindra Telang, IAS also interacted with the national team and informed them about Sikkim’s initiatives for improving overall quality of Education in the state and achieving goals of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) mission in Sikkim.
Prof Anup Rajput of NCERT and Dr Manorath Dahal of SCERT were the coordinators of the workshop from NCERT-Delhi and SCERT-Sikkim respectively.
